6th-grade student: I listened to that song that the guy used all the chords on.
Me: ? Student: The one that's like the hardest jazz song, with the saxophone guy going like *imitates sax player playing a lot of notes*. It was crazy... Me: Oh, duh, Giant Steps is amazing! He just found that on his own. As a 6th grader. And liked it. Proud teacher moment. Student: Drums don't sound very exciting. All you do is hit things and try to make it sound good.
*students walking out of band past my practice room*
Student 1: Our chops may be dead, but we always have enough chops for Jingle Bell Rock. Student 2: That's facts. Student 1: Yes, sir. |
