High Flight was written for the 2015 Minnesota Fringe Festival, and was premiered at the festival on July 30, 2015. This piece is dedicated to the memory of Mike Bratlie, a trombonist, artist, and pilot who disappeared over Lake Superior while test-flying a new engine on June 8, 2012. He has never been found. High Flight was composed as both a celebration of Mike's life, as well as in response to Mike's favorite poem, John Gillespie Magee, Jr.'s High Flight.
